Everyday Flapper

Everyday Flapper

The Flapper Trend is HUGE Right now, thanks to the fabulous costume design in the recently released movie "The Great Gatsby". In my previous post 1920's Glamor I showed some over the top 20's inspired outfits and with everyone rushing to indulge in the glamor of the 1920's, I thought I'd do a posting on how to pull of the look without looking like you're in costume, and without buying tons to expensive pieces, which you probably won't wear very often.

- Having 1-2 pieces with a 20's feel is PLENTY in one outfit. They will give you the look without going over the top, plus you can wear them again and again, even when the trend has run it's course re: string of pearls and art deco print clutch
- Gold will add to the elegance, but use sparinly, especially in the day time. Shoes and pops of jewellery are perfect
- It's the sillouhette that makes the flapper, go for something loose with a dropped waist - this dress has beading, so you really get the feel, but with the right sillouhette, you can still get the look in a more casual way
- Tights are always a fun and cheap way to add something special to an outfit, especially these girly ones with the lace at the top (even if it's just you that sees it)

So go out and indulge in the Over-The-Top-20's-Look!

1920's Glamour

1920's Glamour

I think it's fair to say I'm beyond excited for the release of The Great Gatsby! This is for sure one of my favourite books, and though it's rare that movies ever live up to the books, the fashion, the music, and the over the top glamour could give even my imagination a run for its money.

So obviously with the hype around this movie, we're going to see a mass rising in 20's fashion. Lady like and elegant, Sequins, beading, pearls are going to be everywhere.

There are some easy ways to incorporate this look into your wardrobe.

The Beaded Clutch is a huge throw back to the 20s. Which I love! I have a huge collection of Vintage clutches that I love mixing with modern pieces to dress up any look.

Easy to wear, dropped waist dresses, will give you the flapper look in a second. And though the dresses pictured are amazing! They are not necessarily the most practical, and you really have to commit to the look, which can be great, but may leave you with a dress you wear once, hanging in your closet, and I think we all have enough of those. So go with something in the same silhouette, but with less beading, or beading in one area, say along the neckline.

The cloche hat is another quintessential piece, and I've been looking for the perfect one FOREVER! I will for sure post when I find one!

On route to the airport for Saskatchewan Fashion Week! Dressing for travel is always difficult, but here you can check out this cute and comfy, flying friendly outfit.

Here are three simple rules to keep from beeping!
1. A great scarf will keep you warm if the plane is drafty and a big bag will fall into the 1 carry on limit, plus hold your book, ipad or whatever other travel accessories you need to carry
2. Keep accessories to a minimum, no belts, bangles and baubles
3. Skip the heels and go with toms, flats or sneaker, that way, you hopefully won't have to take them off and step on the gross airport floor :p

Happy Travels and watch for more postings from my adventures at Sask Fashion Week!
