Today I'm at Giving Gifts & Company, the cooperative pop up shop at 4570 Main St, that I'm involved with, and I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about the about the amazing line of scarves carried here.

Their committed is to long-term solutions to fighting poverty, and the main focus is creating opportunities for vulnerable women.  That means that your purchase of a scarf creates jobs, so that the women are not dependent upon charity, but instead are a vital part of a developing economy.

The strategy is two-fold.  They work with women to help them start small business cooperatives, and partner with and require manufacturers to also employ women with fair wages & fair hiring practices.

Each scarf comes with the story of the women who created it. The one I'm sporting is from a woman named Freharoot and says "Because of you I am able to provide for my family. Thank you."
